The area most certainly did not look like this Thursday night. It was rain, wind and cold.

The mayor has issued a parking ban for all city streets beginning at noon Saturday ahead of the snowstorm. This will allow plows to keep up with an anticipated 3 to 6 inches of snow that is expected to blanket Middletown beginning this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Also, the Russell Library is closing at 1 p.m. today due to snow.

A winter weather advisory for Connecticut remains in effect through 6 a.m. Sunday. The bulk of the heavy snowfall is expected to begin at dark, according to NBC Connecticut.

Three lots downtown are available to motorists for overnight parking, if needed:

  • Corner of Washington and Broad streets
  • Broad Street, across from the Russell Library
  • Melilli Plaza, behind Main Street Market

Any vehicles parked on city streets after 12 p.m. may be towed by Middletown Police, according to a press release from the department of Public Works. If your car is towed, call (860) 347-6791 to retrieve it. Motorists are responsible for any ticket and towing charges.
