The city's Christmas Tree collection and recycling program begins today and continues daily, weather permitting. This special recycling program is being provided to residents as part of the city's overall effort to reduce waste and reuse and recycle discarded materials.
Christmas trees can either be brought to the city recycling center free of charge for recycling or placed at the curb for collection by the Middletown Public Works Department. Trees placed at the curb must be prepared accordingly.
- All decorations must be removed, including tinsel
- Plastic bags must also be removed
- Trees should be placed butt ends facing the curb
- Trees must be placed at the curb by Jan. 3
The collection schedule will depend upon weather conditions. Heavy snow will delay collection of the trees.
Trees delivered directly to the Recycling Center must also have all decorations removed and be emptied from plastic bags. A residence pass must be acquired to enter the Recycling Center. This sticker can be obtained from the Department of Public Works in the Municipal Building.
The vehicle registration of the vehicle you’ll be using must be presented when obtaining a permit. There is no charge to bring trees to the Recycling Center.
Christmas trees are chipped along with regular brush from residents and the chips are given away free of charge to Middletown residents and businesses. Large loads of woodchips (more than five cubic yards) are delivered to residents free of charge.
Public Works crews have started collecting leaves and will continue, weather permitting. Leaf collection was delayed this year due to the fall storms.
