Middletown Police report the following incidents:
Jan. 7
FUGITIVE ARREST WITH WARRANT — At 11 a.m., police were called by the Branford Police assistant chief asking them to take Robert E. Irish, 56, of Thomas Street, formerly of Pennsylvania, into custody, the report says, for failure to appear and receiving and selling stolen firearms.
Jan. 6
INTERFERING WITH OFFICER — At 3:30 a.m., Carolyn Rynaski, 26, of Main Street, Middlefield, was driving a Ford Windstar on North Main Street, stopping in several locations for a short period of time, the report says, in a high crime area. Police again saw it driving on Prospect Street without a front license plate. She smelled of alcohol, the report says, was overly nervous, and had cash on the passenger seat. The report says she told officers she was returning from a friend named "Mack's" house, but couldn't say where. Once police asked if she was there to buy narcotics, she became belligerent and argumentative, the report says, pulling away from officers. Inside the van police found a prescription in her name for Suboxone, plastic baggies and several open bottles of alcohol, the report indicates.
Jan. 5
RISK OF INJURY TO CHILD, DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 3 p.m., police were called to a home on Hickory Circle on a domestic assault and spoke with a female victim who said her 17-month boyfriend James Johnson, 23, of Burgundy Hill Lane, whom she had a child with, started insulting her because she wasn't feeling talkative, the report says. She yelled for him to leave, so he pushed her over a baby bouncer and she fell, police say, while two children were there. Johnson told officers he went to his mother's home in Portland, so Portland Police brought him to Middletown.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT, SECOND-DEGREE STRANGULATION — At 12:15 a.m., a woman came into police headquarters to report a domestic involving Michael F. Tolson, 59, of Melwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa., at a home on Prout Hill Road earlier in the evening, according to the report. She said he had choked her, took her keys and scared her so she left the home she was visiting. At 11 p.m., they were lying in bed drinking wine and they argued, so she got up to pack her bag, which reminded him of the last time that happened, so, police say, he strangled her. Tolson was found at the home and was arrested.
EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, UNSAFE BACKING — Police were called to Mad Murphy's bar parking lot on South Main Street where a victim said his car had been damaged by a car driven by Ryon D. Jogoda, 38, of Jobs Pond Road, Portland, who left the scene, the report indicates. The witness gave police the plate number registered to a Mercury Mountaineer and they found him at home. The report says he admitted hitting the car and couldn't say why he left, and said he drank alcohol at the bar but was not intoxicated during the accident.
SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 7:29 p.m., John K. Wilson, 48, of Omo Street was at Forest City Wine and Spirits. The owner told police a man from his office tried to steal a bottle of vodka and had seen him do so on Dec. 12 and 13 as well, the report says, by concealing it in his pants. When the owner confronted him, the report says, he offered to pay and when the owner said he was calling the police, Wilson ran from the store, ripping his shirt.
Jan. 4
USE OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA — At 1:20 p.m., Leon G. James, 24, of Edgewood Drive, Hartford, was driving a Volvo on Washington Street without a passenger tail light. Police say James' eyes were watering heavily and were bloodshot and he admitted to smoking marijuana an hour before in the car. A police canine found two baggies with residue inside and broken glass pipe.
IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:40 a.m., Shermisha C. Spivey, 26, of County Thomas Street was driving a Nissan Altima on West Street with a plate belonging to a Dodge Durango. Spivey told police she was borrowing the car from a friend.
BREACH OF PEACE — At 3:56 p.m., police were called to Rite Aid on a harassment complaint in which the victim said her ex-boyfriend Daniel Cherico, 32, of Brent Road, Manchester, followed her to the store to talk to her and she became afraid, the report says. The victim had filed a complaint with East Hartford Police in the past, police say. Once found driving on Main Street, the report says, Cherico said they had been dating for four months and were planning to marry but she stopped contacting him and he was trying to talk about her relationship.
Jan. 3
OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, FAILURE TO DRIVE IN PROPER LANE — At 6:52 p.m., Gilbert Reyes, 25, of Congress Avenue, Waterbury, was driving a Dodge Avenger on Washington Street half in the wrong lane. Police smelled marijuana and found the remnants of it in the car. The passenger admitted it was his, the report says.
FIRST- AND SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, FAILURE TO RESPOND — At 12:30 p.m., Matthew Lafo, 25, of Grapevie Road, Higganum, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant from East Hampton.
