Patch's Poll: Does the State Favor UConn over the State University System?

In a time of tight budgets, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has proposed investing $1.5 billion in "Next Generation Connecticut," a program that will increase enrollment, bring in new faculty, and improve the infrastructure at the University of Connecticut's six campuses, particularly at the flagship Storrs campus.

The state university system — 17 colleges and universities governed by the Board of Regents including Central, Eastern, Western and Southern — isn't seeing the same kind of investment. In fact, the system had to implement a hiring freeze.

"I am hearing a lot of concerns. I have concerns personally... This really big investment in UConn sort of feels like a disinvestment in the community colleges and the state college universities," Sen. Beth Bye, the co-chairwoman of the legislature's Higher Education Committee, told the governor's budget director during a recent legislative hearing, according to the Connecticut Mirror.

What's your take on it? Is one system being favored over the other?

Take our poll and tell us in the comments.
