A 69-year-old Amston man is facing a drunk driving charge after Middletown Police say he was found slumped over the wheel of his Subaru at a local gas station.

On Oct. 5 at 8:46 p.m., Hendry A. Lindert, 69, of North Pond Road, Amston, was seen by police at the Irving Gas Station fuel bay on Washington Street. The report says Lindert was slumped over the wheel of a Subaru Forester sleeping and the strong smell of alcohol was coming from the car.

The report says when he was asked how much he drank, Lindert said, "too much," and referred to a pint of vodka. The attendant said at 8:46 p.m., a customer alerted him to Lindert appearing drunk but drove off and returned 10 minutes later.

He failed field sobriety tests and breath tests registered .252 and .231 blood alcohol content. After the second test, the report says, Lindbert said he felt sick during processing and vomited several times.

He was charged with driving under the influence.
