A 66-year-old city man, twice-convicted for driving under the influence, was stopped last week for speeding on Route 9 and arrested for DUI by state police.
On Oct. 14 at 9:01 a.m., Jeffrey C. Abrams, 66, of Newfield Street was driving on Route 9 North in Chester, according to State Police Troop F in Westbrook, and seen speeding near Exit 5, the report says.
Abrams moved from the right lane into the left without signaling and was stopped at Exit 6. He failed a sobriety test, the report says, and was charged with failure to signal, speeding over 70 miles per hour, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and tampering with an ignition interlock device.
Abrams was sentenced to a year in jail on March 9, 2004, after an Oct. 13, 2002, DUI incident. On July 31, 2009, he was sentenced to three years in jail, suspended after a year with two years probation, after a second DUI in March.
