A Middletown man is facing criminal charges after police said he made threats with a machete against a female victim following an argument.
Leal R. Pickering, 58, if 44 Rome Ave., told police that the female victim was “disrespecting him” and was refusing to leave his house when he asked.
According to a police report, Pickering then picked up a machete and took it out of his sheath, waving it at the victim and threatening to cut her with it, police said.
Pickering then admitted that, when the victim slammed a door on him, he stuck the machete in the door, leaving a piece of the door damaged, police said.
Police recovered the 18-inch machete next to Pickering’s bed, after he told them it was there, the report said.
Pickering was charged with second-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $5,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on Monday.
Pickering previously served jail time for a marijuana charge, according to online court records.
