Dr. Tamar Taddei, professor of medicine and director of the liver cancer program at Yale-New Haven Hospital, is the guest on the next edition of the health-information radio program, Healthline.
Taddei will discuss the importance of your liver, how it functions, what can harm can occur if it becomes damaged.
The liver is the largest organ inside the body — about the size of a football in most adults and weighs approximately three pounds. Its’ main function is to filter blood coming from the digestive tract before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals, metabolizes drugs, and makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions. The liver is so critical that you could only survive a day or two should it shut down.
For information on this organ found mostly under your ribs in the upper right part of your abdomen, just below your diaphragm, see http://liverfact.com
